1st INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY 2006 OBSERVED IN NIGERIA
Theme: CAMPAIGN FOR NON-VIOLENT ELECTION IN 2007, Dance for Peace
Aware that the International Community has made a Universal Declaration that every nation, people and organization should observe the 21st of September as a Day of Peace, we of Cycie2000 led by Victor I. Abusomwan, decided to make a clarion call and to awaken the exercise by creating an awareness of this first of its kind program and event in the country. This gave birth to the celebration of the International Day of Peace in the country. If at all the program was on, this was what brought the Celebration of the International Peace Day to a clear light in the country. What holds a nation and a country together is the election and the vote of the people. When the right person is voted in, there will be peace and goodwill in that community, and when a wrong person is voted into power, there is bound to be violent and atrocities in that community. So, there is the need for everyone to shun violence, the use of thuggery and create an atmosphere where people will have to vote freely, peacefully and properly. This is the event that has made the celebration of the International Day of Peace a meaningful one in Nigeria in 2006.
